Growing up so fast!

My boys are growing up so fast. Three days ago Hudson started rolling over from back to front. He did it three times before I actually saw him do it. Now he is rolling all over the place.
Lane went to grandma Schumacher's for the first time this week. Mom and Lane did very well. Before Lane left I told him to listen to Grandma and to have good manners. He must have done well because he told the waitress "Thank You" when she took his plate... without me prompting him to. When he came home and saw I cleaned his room he said "Oh Thank You mom! my room is so pretty". I really can not ask for more than that. Grandma told us that he slept by himself, through the night every night and went to bed with a kiss and a bed time story. We have yet to replicate that. It is nice to have my boys home. I did not miss Lane tooooooo terrible much but I am sure glad he is home. I hear "they grow up so fast" everytime I turn around. I know it is true so I will try to soak up everyday and try not to get upset when Lane dumps all his soap into the bathtub.

Where is summer going?

Time is slipping away and I have not posted any new pics. I uploaded a fresh batch today so here is what we have been up to.

Daddy and Lane slept out in the tent. In the back yard.

Then we went to Quincy to visit the Wolfmeyer. Lane liked Seth and Reed's pool.

Then we headed to the Dells. We rode the mini train and lots of waterslides.

Next, Lane's cousins came to visit. Evan, Abbey, Aunt Michelle and Uncle Travis. We had a cook out for the fourth of July.

We are headed to Chattanooga for our next big adventure. Stay tuned!

One of the happiest days of my life!

What was the happiest day of your life? My wedding day was one of mine. I did not have cold feet or any doubt whatsoever. The day of my 20 week ultrasound with Lane, when the dr. told us he was healthy. The days my boys were born. These are all on my list of the happiest days of my life. I added one today. After a wonderful day playing with Lane and his friends (which happen to be the children of my friends) Scott gave me wonderful news.... HE RESIGNED FROM BASEBALL! Scott seemed a little sad to be closing this chapter of his life and I know that it was not an easy decision for him. I am so happy that he will be able to spend more time with Lane and Hudson and... yes, with me. I have always said the only reason I do not like baseball is that it takes him away from us. So today I was given the gift of time and my boys were given the gift of a father that will play baseball with them. I might learn to love baseball.

I could have written a book!

When I am faced with a problem or a question I look in a book. I google it of course but if it is an important problem, I find a book. Hudson was waking up every hour or hour and a half so I got on the library website and looked for sleep help. I found a book called the lull-a-baby method. After reading this book I realized I had already used this method only I call it talking to my friend and boring my kids to sleep method. My friend Sue moved to TN last year. We talk on the phone for at least an hour at a time. I noticed that when she would call at bed time, I would talk while I was laying in bed with Lane and he would fall asleep before I got off the phone. Then I noticed when I was rocking Hudson and talking, Hudson would fall asleep in less than 10 min. One night Hudson was not settling down. I reached for my cell phone so I could call Sue. I did not have it. Being too lazy to walk downstairs, I decided to pretend I was talking to Sue, out loud. I told her about my day and ask about her kids. I told her about something funny Lane said and something rude someone had said to me. I looked down and sure enough Hudson was asleep. Now, I open this new book and the entire lull-a-baby method is called "charming" your baby to sleep. How? by talking. That is right just talking to your baby will put them to sleep. Well, it works! but I already knew that. I could have written that book! Maybe I will take all the tips from my blogging friends and compile them into a book... what do you all think we should call it? Oh, and just as a warning if your phone rings at 7:30pm it is probably me looking for someone to help "charm" Hudson to sleep!

The cutest thing I have ever heard.

Last night at dinner Lane was playing with his food. Yes, I know I am supposed to discurage this but it was so cute. He was taking the ears off his mickey mouse cheese and telling me what animal it looked like. "It's a sheep mommy" then "it's a dinasour". Daddy says "what does a sheep say?" Lane responds "Baaaaa". Daddy: What does a duck say? Lane: Quack Quack. Daddy says "What does a Daddy say?" Lane paused for a second and I held my breath. Lane says "I love you".

I needed to send my mother in law some pictures so I told Lane we were going to play photographer. It was a lot of fun. Hudson even seemed to enjoy himself. Here are the pics.

Oh my goodness, Life goes so fast!

So much has happened in such little time. I feel like I was pregnant FOREVER then all of the sudden here he is! It is like that I guess, months of waiting and planning and dreaming. Then... a trip to the dr. and a few hours later you have a baby. Not just a baby but a little brother, second son, wiggly little wet diaper. My plan is to use this blog as a baby book and try to keep track of all those little things. Right now I only have time to put down a few words and some pics. I know you all want the pics anyway.

For a milestone for Hudson... He slept though the night! He slept from 11:30 last night to 5:30 this morning. I don't know if he will do it again anytime soon but I will enjoy it while I can.

She has a baby in her tummy!

I was looking on the web last night for a baby wrap that I saw in Parent's Magazine. I had made a wrap like this for Lane but could never figure out how to tie it. Lane was sitting next to me when he saw this picutre. He said "There is a baby in her tummy! but his head is sticking out!" Then he pulled up my shirt to make sure Hudson's head was not sticking out yet. He found that Hudson was still all tucked in to mommy's tummy so he gave him a kiss where he thought the head would be. How cute is that!!

For those of you who do not know, I LOVE baby slings and wraps. I spent the first couple of months walking circles in our house holding Lane wishing I had some way to strap him to me. I even tried tying towels around myself. It was not until he was 6 months old that I figured out that "hey, I can sew" maybe I can make something. Well come to find out there is an entire sub-culture dedicated to baby wearing. Here are some links to babysling and wrap sites.

no sew baby wrap make your own (just like the sleepy wrap)

How to sew a pouch sling (this is the one I used the most with Lane)

Peanut shell (If I were going to buy a sling this is the one I would buy)

All is well!

I had another doctor appointment today. Hudson is doing very well. He is already 6 lbs 14 oz and in the 66 percentile. He passed all of his tests in the bio physical profile with flying colors and in record time. Mommy however was referred to a sleep specialist to be tested for sleep apnea. I am pretty sure the apnea problem has something to do with the 20 lbs. basket ball sitting on my stomach at the moment. Overall it was a good visit. We have two more visits before the big day on March 17th.

I knew something was wrong when...

I knew something was wrong when Lane and I were visiting our neighbors down the street. My friend had just made cookies with her girls and offered Lane a beater. Lane just looked at her, he had no idea what to do with it! Now, I do not believe in feeding my kid a steady stream of cookies and cakes but for goodness sakes, he did not even know he was suppose to lick the beater! This is most likely due to my unreasonable fear of cooking. So today I took a step toward being a better mommy and made zucchini bread with Lane. He poured the sugar and even used the mixer and yes, even though there were raw eggs in it, I let him lick the beater. I also taught him a new four letter word when he spilled the zucchini all over the island. I am not proud of that word, but his pronunciation was excellent! So... one step forward , one step back. Here are some pictures from our adventure.

What sports SHOULD be about.

If you live in DeKalb you have probably heard this story. I am proud to be a part of DeKalb High School. Sometimes our kids do "get" the important things.

What will Hudson's nickname be?

I already know the name of the little boy in my tummy. His name is Hudson John Thomas. I love this name, it is unique and still reminds me of so many people I love. I also love Lane's name. I even love my dog's name "Maggie", she is named after my dad's horse. However, even though I picked these names and I love them, I always end up giving the people (and dogs) in my family nicknames. I call Lane "wiggle bug" or "sugar bug" because I could not believe that a new born baby could wiggle so much or be so sweet! I call Maggie... Smooo. I think because it rhymes with I love you. I even call Scott "Honey Bunny". I wonder what I will call Hudson. I never plan these things they just come out one day and stick. Scott even calls Lane and Maggie by these nick names. I guess I will have to wait till he makes an appearance and shows me what his personality is like. I can't wait!!!

Sweetest Big Brother

This morning Lane was a BEAR to wake up and get ready for school. After a lot of urging and a threat that Daddy would dress him he came running downstairs. As he was putting on his coat he said "Mommy, aren't you going to work?" Daddy told him "Mommy had to stay home and take care of Hudson". As they were walking out the door I said "Lane, I need a hug" he came around the chair and gave me a hug and kiss. He then knelt down and gently huged my belly and kissed my belly. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. I think Lane will be a great Big Brother.

Cooking Spree!!

So believe it or not I went on a cooking spree today. Scott took a couple pics of me in action because he thought no one would believe me. Yesterday and today I made...

1. Home made turkey noodle soup (I boiled a whole turkey). Ok Scott helped me
2. Creamy turkey and noodles
3. Cheesey Mushroom Chicken and mashed potatoes
4. Chicken Catchatorie (I know I did not spell that right)
5. Creamy vegtables and Turkey bake with stuffing.
We are freezing all of this for when Hudson comes home and we do not want to cook.

Yes, I know these are not very good belly pics. I will try to get some good ones posted as soon as I figure out the self timer thing on my camera.

Happy Valentine's Day

For Valentine's day Scott and Lane surprised Mommy with a very, very nice gift! Scott got me the camera I have been drooling over since before Chistmas. he got me the Nikon D60 DSLR!!!
Lane got me the camera bag. I am very excited and I am sooo looking forward to learning how to use it during my "bed rest" days. Here are a few pics. I know they are lame but I am just learning.
Scott also made me a fire for heart day.

It is hard work making a mess of the house all the time... I need nap.
Actually Maggie did not make this mess, Lane did, practicing his cutting skills.

"Mommy, I want a big camera like yours"

Lane is watching "Word Girl" his favorite cartoon.

Merry Christmas

Here are pics from our Christmas celebrations with Scott's family and mine.
